SiteLink Stand-Alone ›› FAQ

Q: Will SMD Software discontinue PC-based SiteLink?

A: Absolutely not. It's a rumor, a fear that our competitors love to stir.

Some wonder about the future of PC-based SiteLink because we are adding more features to SiteLink Web Edition. We are changing Web Edition more rapidly because its technology is more powerful than that of PC-based SiteLink.

We are growing Web Edition because its programming tools are newer and more feature-rich. Web Edition is web-based; its architecture uses the SQL database, Visual Studio.NET and Web Services. Newer programming tools let us add more functions to Web Edition, such as online payments and ACH. While Web Edition offers features other programs can’t, we are still making many changes to PC-based SiteLink ten years after its first release, and we have no reason to stop.

In January 2010, we released the single biggest update of PC-based SiteLink to date — our PCI-certified version. We rewrote most of PC-based SiteLink to conform with the new credit card company requirements. SMD Software is one of the few companies in the storage software industry to put all its products through the stringent PCI-compliance audit.

We would not have gone through the trouble and expense unless we are committed to PC-based SiteLink. We continue to sell and service PC-based SiteLink with great success.

As of January 2010, we still have over 5,500 users of PC-based SiteLink. There is no reason to discontinue the product. PC-based SiteLink works on the newest operating systems, including Windows 7. We have full-time programmers evolving PC-based SiteLink every day. And every day, we implement suggestions from happy users of PC-based SiteLink.
